Vinay Kumar, 1992-batch IFS officer appointed Telangana Chief Wildlife Warden

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government on Wednesday appointed 1992-batch Indian Forest Service officer Vinay Kumar, currently serving as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, as the state’s Chief Wildlife Warden. He is expected to assume charge shortly.

Extensive administrative experience

With over three decades of experience in forest administration, Vinay Kumar has served in key roles across the forest, rural development and irrigation departments. His assignments include Project Director of the Adilabad DPAP, Conservator of Forests, and Commissioner for Irrigation and Command Area Development in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh government.

Conservation and international projects

In Telangana, he earlier served as Field Director of the Amrabad Tiger Reserve. He also worked as state project director for programmes implemented with support from the World Bank and Japan International Cooperation Agency.

Awards and priorities

For his work on sustainable water resources management, Vinay Kumar received the first runner-up recognition at the United Nations ‘Water for Life’ award in 2014.

Speaking on the appointment, Vinay Kumar said the department would strengthen forest protection while prioritising wildlife conservation and public safety.
