Dca Seizes Medicines With Misleading Claims In Telangana

Hyderabad: On March 20, 2025, the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana conducted raids and seized several medicines that were found to be making misleading health claims. The products, including PICROSOL Lotion, Aswagandha Choornam, Musli Capsules, and Vimcet Plus-DS Suspension, were being marketed with unsubstantiated claims to treat conditions such as ‘Leucoderma,’ ‘Tuberculosis,’ and ‘Fever.’ These claims violate the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, which prohibits the advertisement of certain medicines for specific diseases.

The PICROSOL Lotion, an Ayurvedic product, was advertised as a treatment for Leucoderma. It was manufactured by Plus Formulations in Karnal, Haryana, and marketed by Dermacia Healthcare in Delhi. The product was detected in Ramanthapur, Medchal-Malkajgiri District.

Aswagandha Choornam, another Ayurvedic medicine, was claimed to cure Tuberculosis. It was produced by Grovel Drugs and Chemical Pvt Ltd in Sangareddy, Telangana, and was found in Nagarkurnool.

Musli Capsules, also an Ayurvedic medicine, were falsely promoted as a remedy for Chronic Fever. The product was manufactured by Keva Herbals in Himachal Pradesh and was seized from Bhainsa Village in Nirmal District.

Finally, Vimcet Plus-DS Suspension, an allopathic medicine, was advertised for the treatment of Fever. Manufactured by Maxtra Laboratories in Yadadri-Bhongiri District, Telangana, and marketed by Mackvin Pharma in Medchal-Malkajgiri District, it was found in Prashanthnagar, Kukatpally.

The Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, aims to prevent the advertisement of drugs that claim to treat certain diseases, such as Leucoderma, Tuberculosis, and Fever, without scientific evidence. During the raids, DCA officials, including Drugs Inspectors G. Indira Priyadarshini, S. Viswanth Reddy, M. Shyam Sundar, and Dr. R. Geethanjali, confiscated the medicines and initiated further investigation into the matter.

The DCA has warned that those involved in making misleading health claims will face legal consequences under the Act. In a statement, V.B. Kamalasan Reddy, Director-General of DCA, urged the public to report any suspected illegal drug manufacturing activities or other related complaints. Reports can be made through the DCA’s toll-free helpline at 1800-599-6969, which is available from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on all working days.
