Beyond Bangkok: Why Hyderabad Travellers Are Choosing Vietnam for Their Next Holiday

Vietnam Is Hyderabad's

HYDERABAD: Vietnam has become the most preferred overseas holiday destination for travellers from Hyderabad. It has overtaken traditional favourites such as Bangkok, Indonesia and the Maldives. The sharp rise follows the launch of direct flights between Hyderabad and Vietnam.

Direct Flights Fuel Surge in Travel

According to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), around 35,000 travellers from Hyderabad visited Vietnam during 2024-25. However, the number jumped to nearly 95,000 in 2025-26. Airport officials attribute the surge to direct connectivity, affordable travel packages and Vietnam’s wide range of tourist attractions.

Earlier, travellers had to take connecting flights that lasted between six-and-a-half and nine-and-a-half hours. Now, nonstop flights have reduced the journey to about four-and-a-half hours. As a result, Vietnam has become a more convenient destination for families and holiday groups.

“Within a year of launching direct services, RGIA has seen impressive passenger traffic on the Hyderabad-Vietnam sector. The strong demand reflects changing outbound travel trends, with more people choosing Vietnam for family holidays and group travel,” a GMR Hyderabad International Airport spokesperson said.

Wide Range of Tourist Attractions

Vietnam offers a mix of vibrant cities and scenic beach destinations. Travellers can explore Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi or relax at popular coastal locations such as Da Nang and Phu Quoc. Consequently, the country appeals to a wide range of leisure travellers.

“Over the past year, Vietnam has witnessed a sharp surge in popularity among travellers from Hyderabad. As a relatively new international destination, it has quickly captured the interest of holidaymakers looking for fresh travel experiences. Moreover, the momentum is likely to continue as more travellers choose Vietnam for a convenient international getaway,” said Nagesh Pampati, president of the Travel Agents Association of India, Telangana chapter.

Sri Lanka Also Sees Strong Growth

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka emerged as the second fastest-growing overseas destination for travellers from Hyderabad. Visitor numbers increased from 95,704 in 2024-25 to 1.08 lakh in 2025-26. The rise highlights the growing demand for short-haul international holidays among travellers from the city.
