Vendor Alleges Abuse At Khairatabad Police Station, Mbt Seeks Action

Hyderabad: Majlis Bachao Tehreek spokesperson Amjedullah Khan said a roadside vendor was allegedly beaten up and forced to clean toilets at the Khairatabad police station when he appeared for questioning in a petty case.

Speaking to reporters outside Osmania General Hospital, Khan said the vendor, Abdur Rahman, a resident of CIB Quarters, Khairatabad, was selling lemon juice on his cart at Necklace Road. He had an argument with an ice vendor in the area who objected and asked him to find some other spot for his business.

Following the argument, the police called him to the police station for questioning. When Rahman arrived at the police station, the policemen allegedly tied his hands and legs and started beating him.

“The policemen including an inspector thrashed me badly, causing an injury to the right eye and ears. Subsequently, they forced me to clean the washroom inside the police station,” Abdur Rahman told reporters.

The MBT leader criticised the police for allegedly forcing a hawker to clean the toilets. He condemned the incident and urged the police department to investigate the matter and take appropriate action against the erring police officials.

Khan further said that he had confidence in the police department as the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, CV Anand suspended M Raju, the Inspector of Chaderghat police station, for dereliction of duty. He said the disciplinary action was taken against the police official for his alleged negligence in a theft case. “I am hopeful that the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police would do justice in the hawker case too,” he added.
