Telangana Minorities Commission Seeks Report on Vemulawada Dargah Shift
HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Minorities Commission has sought a factual report on the shifting of Dargah Hazrat Syed Tajuddin Khaja Bagh Sawar in Vemulawada during expansion works of the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Temple.
The Commission’s secretary issued notices to the Chief Executive Officer of the Telangana State Waqf Board, the District Collector of Rajanna Sircilla district, and the Commissioner of the Telangana Endowments Department. The officials have been asked to submit a detailed report within seven days.
Complaint over shifting of dargah
The action followed a representation by Amjed Ullah Khan, spokesperson of the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT). He alleged that authorities demolished and shifted the notified Waqf property located near the temple premises.
Dargah notified as Waqf property
In his complaint, Khan stated that Dargah Hazrat Syed Tajuddin Khaja Bagh Sawar in Vemulawada is a notified Waqf institution under a Gazette notification. The site holds religious importance for the Muslim community.
He claimed that authorities removed the structure during extension and renovation works at the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Temple. The development has raised concerns among sections of the minority community.
The complaint also referred to proceedings issued by the Telangana State Waqf Board on October 17, 2025. The Board had informed the Rajanna Sircilla district administration that the dargah was a notified Waqf property. It said authorities could not relocate or alter the structure without its approval.
The Board also asked officials to ensure that the structure remained undisturbed.
Commission seeks status report
After reviewing the representation, the Minorities Commission asked the concerned departments to submit a factual report on the present status of the dargah.
The Commission noted that the matter relates to constitutional protections for minorities under Articles 25 and 26 of the Constitution of India. These provisions guarantee freedom of religion and the right to manage religious affairs.
The Commission also said that disturbing a minority religious institution without lawful authority could affect statutory safeguards and communal harmony. It will examine the issue after receiving reports from the departments and take action as per law.
