Vc Sajjanar Urges Youth To Avoid Easy Money Traps After Hyderabad Student's Death

Hyderabad: VC Sajjanar, Senior IPS Officer and Managing Director of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has warned against the dangers of online betting following the tragic incident of Hyderabad student’s death.

In a post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Sajjanar stated, “Online betting has claimed the life of a degree student. The parents, who hoped their son would settle down as an agricultural officer after completing a B.Sc. in Agriculture, have seen their dreams shattered. Youngsters, do not fall into the trap of easy money and destroy your future.”

The tragic incident involved Sirikonda Nikhil Rao (22), a third-year B.Sc. Agriculture student at a college in Hyderabad. Nikhil, a resident of Mannempalli in Karimnagar district, had accumulated significant debts from online betting, which his father, Tirupati Rao, had previously cleared.

On March 7, Nikhil returned to his village. His father dropped him off at the Karimnagar bus stand at 4:30 a.m. on March 10, expecting him to board a bus back to Hyderabad for his studies. However, Nikhil, overwhelmed by his debts, chose not to board the bus and instead returned to his village. Tragically, he lost his life by jumping into an agricultural well.

A local farmer discovered the body at around 11:40 a.m. and alerted the police. Authorities arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it for a post-mortem at Karimnagar Government Hospital.

A case has been registered, and an investigation is ongoing based on the family’s complaint. Nikhil was the only child of his parents.
