Devotees at Saraswati temple in Hyderabad on Vasanth Panchami performing Aksharabhyasam rituals

HYDERABAD: Temples across the city and its suburbs witnessed a steady stream of devotees from the early hours on Friday on the occasion of Vasanth Panchami.

Temples dedicated to Goddess Saraswathi were specially decorated with flowers and lights for the festival, with families arriving in large numbers to take part in special pujas and rituals. Many parents were seen carrying books, slates and notebooks as part of the traditional offerings.

On the auspicious day, devotees sought the blessings of Goddess Saraswathi and performed Aksharabhyasam for their children, marking the formal initiation of education. Priests conducted the ritual from early morning, leading to queues at several prominent temples.

Mother Goddess temples across the city also saw heavy footfall from dawn, with priests making arrangements to manage the rush and conduct uninterrupted pujas. Volunteers assisted devotees and regulated entry at a few locations to avoid overcrowding.

The festival also saw increased activity in temple surroundings, with vendors selling flowers, coconuts and puja material. Traffic movement remained slow in pockets around major temples during the morning hours.
