Bridge in disrepair poses threat to Vandanapuri Colony residents in Hyderabad

Vandanapuri Colony Bridge Disrepair

Hyderabad: A bridge connecting Vandanapuri Colony to NH 65 (Ramachandrapuram) via BHEL Bus Depot has been in a dangerous condition for the past two years, raising concerns for residents’ safety. The bridge, which falls under the joint jurisdiction of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Ameenpur Municipality, lacks proper signage and railings, further exacerbating the issue.

Local resident Koushik highlighted the problem on a social media platform ‘X,’ formerly known as Twitter, tagging the official accounts of the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration and Ameenpur Municipality. “This bridge on the Vandanapuri Colony road connecting the colony to NH 65 from BHEL Bus Depot is in a dangerous condition,” he wrote. “There are no signboards and railings. I was told that the railings were damaged two years ago and haven’t been replaced.”

While speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, Koushik elaborated, “This route is used daily by commuters and pedestrians traveling to the colony. The absence of railings and signage makes it unsafe, especially during the monsoon season when the nearby nala overflows. Shopkeepers informed me that they are forced to close the bridge themselves every year due to these overflows, making it a nightmare for them.”

Koushik further said, “The overflowing nala damaged the bridge railings during the monsoon two years ago. However, the authorities have not replaced the railings or installed any caution boards since then. This not only poses a danger during monsoons but also makes daily commutes difficult and risky.”

Residents are urging the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Ameenpur Municipality authorities to take immediate action to address this critical issue. Replacing the damaged railings and installing proper signage are crucial steps to ensure the safety of commuters and pedestrians using this bridge.
