Police at Vanasthalipuram residence where pregnant woman was stabbed to death; former husband arrested in Hyderabad murder case.

HYDERABAD: A 30 year old software employee was allegedly stabbed to death at her residence in Vanasthalipuram on February 18, 2026, with police arresting her former husband within hours of the crime.

According to the complaint lodged at 13.15 IST by Vudukula Srinath, 30, a private employee residing at KNR Meadows, Kappala Cheruvu, Vanasthalipuram, Ranga Reddy district, he had married Sunitha in 2025 and she was pregnant.

Srinath stated that he left for office in the morning while his wife and mother were at home. At around 12.00 noon, he received a call from his mother and rushed back to find his wife lying in a pool of blood in the bathroom with severe stab injuries. She died on the spot.

Police said that, as per preliminary information gathered from the complainant’s mother and neighbours, a man entered the house around 11.30 am, bolted the main door from inside and allegedly stabbed the victim.

On receiving the complaint, the inspector, along with his team, visited the scene of offence and collected evidence.

Arrest after interrogation

Police arrested Devarakonda Mahesh, 30, a private employee residing at Arun Hostel, Turkayamjal, Abdullapurmet, Ranga Reddy district. He is originally from Viloschavaram village in Manthani mandal of Peddapalli district.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that he had married Sunitha in 2022. Disputes arose between them and she filed a harassment case against him and his family members. The couple obtained a mutual divorce in 2024.

Police said Sunitha later married Srinath in 2025. The accused allegedly told investigators that his mother had recently died due to mental distress, which he attributed to the harassment case. Nursing a grudge, he allegedly decided to kill his former wife, purchased knives and located her residence.

Investigators said the accused entered the house in the absence of her husband and stabbed her repeatedly, leading to her death due to severe bleeding injuries.

Items seized during probe

Police seized a brown Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max, a Swift Dzire car bearing registration number TS 05 FJ 8936, and a bag containing knives from the accused.

The arrest was made under the supervision of Dr B. Anuradha, Deputy Commissioner of Police, LB Nagar Zone, and P. Kasi Reddy, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Vanasthalipuram Division, Malkajgiri Commissionerate. Inspector T. Mahesh is investigating the case.
