Vanasthalipuram police arrests second accused in software engineer sexual assault case
VANASTHALIPURAM/LB NAGAR: Vanasthalipuram police have arrested second accused in the recent high-profile sexually assaulted case, Munagala Shivaji Reddy, also known as Chintu Reddy on Thursday. Reddy accused of sexually assaulting a woman from the SC community. The incident occurred on Monday. Shivaji along with his friend Yadla Gowtham Reddy, allegedly assaulted sexually the victim at a hotel in Vanasthalipuram.
Second arrest in high-profile case
The case began when the first accused, Yadla Gowtham Reddy, took the 24-year-old victim to Sri Bommarillu Bar & Restaurant. He took victim on the pretext of celebrating her new job at Amazon company in Gachibowli. Gowtham forcibly served the victim four vodka shots, which resulted her to lose consciousness . After she lost her senses, he took her to Room 309 of the hotel and sexually assaulted her. Afterwards, Gowtham Reddy called his friend, Shivaji Reddy, who also assaulted the victim while she was still unconscious. The victim regained consciousness during the assault and raised an alarm, causing both men to flee the scene.
The victim contacted her friend Niranjan, who alerted others on the same. Victim’s friend rushed to the restaurant and took her to Orange Hospital in L.B. Nagar for treatment. Niranjan informed to the victim’s brother regarding the same. Victim’s brother then filed a complaint at the Vanasthalipuram Police Station in the early hours of Tuesday.
In light of the seriousness of the case, which falls under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the ACP of Vanasthalipuram took charge of the investigation. The victim’s statement was recorded by a woman sub-inspector from L.B. Nagar Zone. The police arrested Gowtham Reddy on July 30, and he was immediately sent to judicial custody.
The police have seized an iPhone 13 from Shivaji Reddy at the time of arrest. Police arrested main accused Gowtham Reddy within 18 hours of it’s report. ACP formed special teams under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, and the DCP of L.B. Nagar Zone to arrest the second accused in the case. On Wednesday night a special team led by Detective Inspector Y. Gowru Naidu successfully arrested Shivaji Reddy at Chilakaluripeta in Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh. Reddy is now being produced before the Honorable Court.
