Vehicle Registration Desk At Rta Office In Hyderabad After Telangana Shifts Pr Process Online

HYDERABAD: The rollout of the VAHAN portal in Telangana has led to delays in issuing permanent vehicle registration numbers, with dealers and applicants reporting waiting periods of up to 20 days.

The transition has caused confusion at vehicle showrooms, where customers were earlier told that registrations would be completed at the point of sale. In several cases, new registration numbers have not been generated, affecting deliveries and documentation.

Showrooms struggle amid transition to new system

Dealers said applications were not progressing in some instances, leaving showroom staff unable to provide clear updates to buyers. This has led to complaints being raised with Transport Department officials.

Concerns have emerged over whether the delays stem from software glitches, operational challenges, or inadequate training during the shift to the new digital platform.

RTA says phased rollout under way

Officials from the Road Transport Authority (RTA) said the VAHAN portal, developed by the National Informatics Centre, was introduced to simplify and digitise vehicle-related services across the state.

They said the rollout is being carried out in phases, with modules activated step by step to ensure smoother implementation.

According to the department, temporary registration services have stabilised and are functioning normally. The fancy number registration module is also operational, with 858 auctions completed so far.

Officials added that permanent registration numbers have been issued to around 2,200 vehicles across Telangana.

System expected to stabilise within 15 days

Authorities said the portal is being progressively stabilised with technical support from the National Informatics Centre. Additional modules are being integrated in stages.

The system is expected to become fully operational within 15 days, after which all vehicle-related services are likely to run seamlessly.

The Transport Department said it is addressing stakeholder concerns during the transition and remains committed to improving digital governance and citizen services.
