HYDERABAD: The Department of Horticulture, Telangana, will conduct a one day training session on urban farming for city residents interested in growing vegetables on terraces and balconies. The event is scheduled for November 8, 2025 (Saturday), from 10.00 IST to 13.00 IST, at the Telangana Horticulture Training Institute (THTI), Red Hills, Hyderabad.

The training is part of the state’s ‘Mana Illu Mana Kuragayalu’ (Our Home, Our Vegetables) initiative aimed at encouraging citizens to grow pesticide-free vegetables at home. Officials said the programme promotes public health and helps reduce carbon emissions.

According to the department, vegetables play an important role in providing essential vitamins and minerals. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), an adult’s balanced diet should include 400 grams of vegetables daily , comprising 100 grams of tubers or root vegetables, 100 grams of leafy greens, and 200 grams of other vegetables.

“Given rapid urbanisation and limited space for cultivation, terrace and balcony farming can help families ensure access to fresh, chemical-free produce,” the notification stated.

Participants must pay a registration fee of ₹100. For details and registration, citizens may contact 89777 14411 or 86888 48714.
