UPSC clears four Telangana officers for IPS cadre

HYDERABAD:Â The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has approved the Select List 2024 for promotion of four Telangana State Police Service officers to the Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre.
According to an official notification, the list was cleared by the Commission on October 24, 2025, following the meeting of the Selection Committee on August 27, 2025. The approval was made under Regulation 7(3) of the Indian Police Service (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955.
The officers selected for promotion are:
Ch. Samay Jan Rao — born May 6, 1979
S. Sreenivas — born November 13, 1976
K. Gunasekhar — born February 18, 1977
D. Sunitha — born August 2, 1978
The name of Ch. Samay Jan Rao has been included provisionally, subject to clearance of disciplinary proceedings pending against him and the grant of an integrity certificate by the state government.
Three officers appointed to IPS on probation
In a separate order , issued under Rule 9(1) of the Indian Police Service (Recruitment) Rules, 1954, the President approved the appointment of three officers—S. Sreenivas, K. Gunasekhar, and D. Sunitha—to the IPS on probation.
They have been allocated to the Telangana Cadre under Rule 5(1) of the Indian Police Service (Cadre) Rules, 1954.
The officers will remain on probation for one year as per the Indian Police Service (Probation) Rules, 1954, and will undergo induction training as prescribed under sub-rule 5(4) of the same rules, as amended on May 10, 2011.
