Fans Cleaning Dusty Seats At Uppal Stadium During Ipl Match In Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Complaints over poor maintenance and restrictive entry rules surfaced at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal during the first Indian Premier League (IPL) match of the season.

Videos and photos shared on social media showed spectators wiping thick layers of dust off seats using handkerchiefs, tissues and towels. Several fans said they spent the opening minutes cleaning their seating areas instead of supporting Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Social media posts highlight poor upkeep and fan discomfort

The condition of the stadium ahead of the Sunrisers Hyderabad–Lucknow Super Giants match drew criticism online. Supporters described the facilities as inadequate and sought accountability from organisers.

One widely shared Telugu post read: “Uppal stadium seats filled with dust — fans’ ordeal.”

Sunglasses barred, fans question security restrictions

Entry restrictions added to the dissatisfaction. Some fans said security personnel did not allow sunglasses inside the venue, forcing them to discard the items at the entrance.

“Security staff barred sunglasses, forcing fans to dump them outside,” said Ritesh in a social media post, sharing a selfie while disposing of his sunglasses. “How can we face the sharp evening sun?” he added.

Videos circulating online showed multiple spectators throwing away sunglasses before entering the stadium.

Calls for immediate corrective measures by organisers

With complaints mounting, fans urged organisers to address hygiene lapses and improve basic facilities. Many called for better upkeep and clearer entry guidelines to ensure a smoother experience during upcoming matches.
