Uppal drivers face worsening road chaos

Hyderabad: The traffic woes on the Uppal–Warangal national highway continue to worsen by the day, with commuters calling the stretch a “daily hell ride”. What was once a traffic-choked route has now become even more chaotic due to the prolonged construction of the Uppal–Narapally elevated corridor.
Though the project has been underway for nearly eight years, little progress is visible on the ground. The delay has left the entire stretch especially near Uppal bus stand, Nallacheruvu, Uppal depot and Medipally in a battered condition, forcing motorists to navigate through potholes and dust clouds.
Potholes Everywhere, Works Nowhere
Road widening works from Uppal Ring Road to Nallacheruvu and simultaneous pillar construction for the elevated corridor have torn up the existing carriageway, leaving it in an unusable condition. Despite two inspection visits by minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy and his directive to prioritise the ground-level road works, commuters say little has changed.
Large potholes line both sides of the road, and uneven surfaces continue to trouble motorists round the clock.
Dust, Sand and Zero Visibility
From Uppal to Medipally, thick layers of dust have become a major health hazard. With bitumen works incomplete, every passing vehicle sends up huge clouds of dust, making visibility difficult and leaving commuters with burning eyes. Even though officials sprinkle water twice a day using tankers, locals say the measure has had “no real impact”.
Residents and motorists are now urging authorities to take up complete BT-laying on war footing and restore the road before the elevated corridor work progresses any further.
