Uppal Narapally elevated corridor under construction in Hyderabad

UPPAL: The Uppal–Narapally elevated corridor, launched seven years ago to ease traffic on the Warangal highway, remains incomplete with only 43% of work finished.

Minister Komatireddy promises completion but work stalls

Roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy had said in April 2024 that the government would complete the project in 20 months. Again, in June 2025, he announced that construction would be expedited and the corridor would be opened by Dasara. However, little progress has been made on the ground.

Officials said the minister visited the site twice and reviewed the work, promising early completion. But since his visits, only one pillar has been constructed. At present, construction remains stuck at the pillar stage.

Corridor launched in 2018 still far from deadline

The foundation stone for the corridor was laid in October 2018 by then Union minister Nitin Gadkari, with a two-year deadline. The 6.25-km corridor, estimated to cost ₹670 crore, was planned as a six-lane structure to decongest traffic at Uppal.

Amberpet flyover completed, Uppal project lags

While the Amberpet flyover, launched on the same day, has been completed and opened to the public, the Uppal corridor has seen repeated delays. Land acquisition costs are borne by the state government, while construction costs are funded by the Centre.

Locals complained that road digging and piled-up mud for pillar foundations have left the stretch full of potholes, causing severe inconvenience to motorists. “We were told this corridor would solve traffic chaos. Instead, it has turned into a nightmare,” a commuter said.
