HYDERABAD: Hundreds of parents staged a protest at The Hyderabad Public School (HPS), Ramanthapur, on Thursday, alleging steep fee hikes and administrative failures. The demonstration marked a sharp escalation after over a year of negotiations between parents and the school management.

Fee surge triggers prolonged standoff with management

Parents said the immediate trigger was a cumulative 141% increase in fees over four years. According to the Parents’ Core Committee, annual fees rose from about ₹83,630 in 2021 to over ₹2,01,628 in 2025.

They argued that the increase has already exceeded the school’s operational needs and demanded a five-year fee freeze.

Parents from Begumpet branch join protest in solidarity

In a coordinated move, parents from the HPS Begumpet branch joined the agitation. Representatives from both campuses announced a “fee strike” and said they would withhold first-term payments until management gives a written assurance of zero fee increase.

Allegations of poor facilities and lack of transparency

The protesting parents also flagged concerns beyond fees. They alleged a decline in food quality and sports infrastructure, calling facilities “underutilised showpieces”.

They further claimed that the school has not formed a legally mandated Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and has not shared audited financial statements to justify the fee hike.

Demand for leadership change intensifies amid protest

A key demand is the removal of the principal. Parents said the principal has been in the position for 14 years and continues on extension despite reaching retirement age. They described the situation as a “complete administrative failure”.

In a statement, the Parents’ Core Committee said, “We have been dragged through a year of meaningless negotiations. We will not pay another rupee until there is financial transparency, a legitimate PTA, and a change in leadership.”

The protest continued at the Ramanthapur campus, with parents warning of further escalation if their demands are not addressed.
