University of Hyderabad alumni score victories in Kerala polls

HYDERABAD: Two alumni of the University of Hyderabad have been elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in the recently concluded Kerala assembly elections.
Roji M John won from the Angamaly constituency, while Rony K Baby was elected from Kanjirappally.
Campus politics shaped political careers
“It is at UoH where I got an opportunity to interact with students from different states, understand their culture and politics. It gave me a democratic platform and helped in widening my understanding,” John, a three-time MLA, told the media.
He said student politics at UoH and later at Jawaharlal Nehru University paved the way for his political career.
“I was active in student politics both at UoH and JNU. I was also National Students’ Union of India national president,” he added.
Varsity highlights leadership legacy
The university said the journey of the two former students from the Department of Political Science to the Kerala legislative assembly reflected its legacy of nurturing leadership.
John studied MA (Political Science) at UoH during 2002–2004. He has now been elected MLA from the same constituency for the third time since 2016.
Baby studied at UoH from 1998 and was elected to the assembly for the first time in 2026.
