Hyderabad to host University of London campus

HYDERABAD: University of London plans to set up its offshore campus in Hyderabad, marking the first international university to choose the city for expansion.

The decision comes in view of Hyderabad’s global infrastructure, cosmopolitan culture, and presence of leading software companies. The campus is proposed as part of an international education hub in the state’s planned Future City.
The state government is preparing interim measures to enable universities to begin academic operations without delay.
Temporary campus at Begumpet guest house proposed
The government has agreed to allow the use of Begumpet Lake View Guest House as a temporary campus. The university is expected to begin operations in the 2027 academic year.
Sources said representatives of the University of London have initiated the application process with the University Grants Commission.
The university’s affiliated institutions include globally recognised colleges such as King’s College London, London School of Economics, and London Business School.
Future City education zone to host permanent campus
The Telangana government is planning permanent campuses for international universities in the Future City education zone. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has been directing officials to attract global universities to the state.
The government aims to develop a knowledge hub with offshore campuses of top global institutions within the next two years.
Hyderabad’s strength in research, software, biotechnology, and life sciences is drawing interest from more universities in the United Kingdom.
More agreements expected soon
Officials are also coordinating with the UK government to support 13 institutions that have recently shown interest in setting up branch campuses in Hyderabad.
The National Education Policy 2020 has enabled international educational institutions to establish campuses in India, paving the way for such developments.
