University of Hyderabad Students Union to Protest on Scholarships

Hyderabad: Demanding immediate release of pending scholarships, the University of Hyderabad Students Union has called for a protest and effigy burning of the State government on Thursday.

According to the Student Union members, the students, especially from economically weaker backgrounds like from BC, SC and ST categories are facing immense hardship due to the prolonged delay in the release of scholarship.

The members claimed that they tried their best to convey their concerns through representations, however, the government has not responded positively to their efforts.

Highlighting the delay, the student union members said that the BC category students did not receive their scholarships for three consecutive years, while SC and ST students have been waiting for two years. The inordinate delay is not only causing financial troubles for the students but it is also causing anxiety among the outgoing students who may find it difficult to obtain their certificates, they added.

Meanwhile, a memorandum was submitted to chief minister Revanth Reddy pertaining to admission for Ph.D. in Urdu language at Osmania University.

In the memorandum, a group of retired professors and social activists have appealed to the chief minister to review the preservation of Records of ICSSR-SCR at Osmania University. They also alleged that the OU authorities are arranging guides in Urdu and it has put the Urdu students in a quandary.

“The Osmania University, which has taken pride in offering various courses, including professional courses in Urdu since 1918, is now struggling to find qualified guides for research. Additionally, the University authorities are attempting to demolish important historical records of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana without digitizing them, which would be invaluable to research scholars across various subjects. Therefore, the immediate intervention of the Hon’ble Chief Minister is urgently required to address these two critical issues on a priority basis,” the memorandum stated.
