The university achieved rankings between 251-300 in English Language & Literature, 301-350 in Linguistics, 301-375 in Sociology, 451-500 in Chemistry, 501-550 in Economics & Econometrics, 601-675 in Physics & Astronomy, and 651-700 in Biological Sciences. The rankings are based on five key metrics including academic and employer reputation, citations per paper, H-Index, and the International Research Network. Vice Chancellor Prof. B.J. Rao expressed pride in the achievement and stated that the university aims to further enhance its presence in the rankings and expand into more subjects.

Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad has earned a place among the world’s top universities in seven subjects in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject, released on March 12, 2025. The rankings, compiled by global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds, evaluate the performance of more than 18,300 individual university programs across 1,700 universities in over 100 locations globally.

In this year’s rankings, the University of Hyderabad achieved recognition in several subjects. The university ranked between 251-300 in English Language & Literature, while its Linguistics program placed between 301-350. Sociology was ranked between 301-375, and Chemistry was listed between 451-500. The university also ranked between 501-550 in Economics & Econometrics, while Physics & Astronomy was placed between 601-675. The Biological Sciences program was ranked between 651-700.

Prof. B.J. Rao, Vice Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, expressed his pride in the achievement. “We are thrilled to be consistently featured in the QS World Rankings by Subject. This recognition is a testament to the hard work of our departments. However, we are not resting on our achievements; we aim to further strengthen our presence in these rankings and expand into more subjects,” he said.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject are based on five key metrics, academic and employer reputation, citations per paper, H-Index, and the International Research Network (IRN), which assesses cross-border research collaboration.
