Union Budget 2026: Hyderabad to emerge as High-Speed Rail hub with 3 new corridors

HYDERABAD: In a landmark Union Budget presentation, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled an ambitious plan for India’s infrastructure future, placing Hyderabad and Telangana at the heart of a new high-speed rail (HSR) network. The budget announced seven new proposed high-speed rail corridors, with three directly connecting Hyderabad to key economic hubs, signaling a transformative push for the state’s connectivity and economic integration.
Presenting her ninth budget, the first in Indian history on a Sunday, FM Sitharaman, in a magenta Kanjeevaram silk saree honouring Tamil Nadu’s weaving legacy, outlined a vision for rapid inter-city mobility. The corridors announced are Mumbai-Pune, Hyderabad-Pune, Hyderabad-Bengaluru, Hyderabad-Chennai, Chennai-Bengaluru, Delhi-Varanasi, and Varanasi-Siliguri.
The announcement positions Hyderabad as a pivotal high-speed rail nexus in Southern India. The proposed corridors promise to reduce travel time between the state capital and major metros, shrinking economic distances. Hyderabad-Pune will strengthen the link between two major IT and industrial powerhouses. Hyderabad-Bengaluru aims to integrate the two leading technology corridors of India, fostering deeper collaboration in innovation and manufacturing. Hyderabad-Chennai will enhance connectivity between the capital and the industrial and port hub of Chennai.
This triple-corridor plan is seen as a major win for Telangana, potentially accelerating its development as a premier investment destination and logistics gateway. It aligns with the state government’s consistent push for enhanced infrastructure to support its growing industrial, pharmaceutical, and technology sectors.
The budget session began with a traditional gesture, as President Droupadi Murmu offered ‘dahi-cheeni’ (curd and sugar) to the Finance Minister for a smooth presentation,a ritual symbolizing the hope for a sweet and auspicious start.
