‘I Am Not Absconding’: Trainee IPS Officer Uday Krishna Reddy Breaks Silence
HYDERABAD: Breaking his silence over allegations of sexual harassment and other offences, trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Uday Krishna Reddy on Tuesday denied reports that he was absconding. He said he had travelled to his native village, Ullapalem in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district, to visit his ailing grandmother. He also said he was returning to Hyderabad to cooperate with the investigation.
Addressing the media, Uday Krishna Reddy described the allegations made by a fellow trainee IPS officer as “completely false.” He also said he had never tried to evade the investigation.
“I am not absconding. Portraying my visit to my native village as an attempt to flee is incorrect. The allegations against me are baseless,” he said.
Says media reports affected family
According to the trainee officer, media coverage of the case deeply affected his family. He said the reports caused his grandmother to fall ill, which prompted his visit to Ullapalem.
“I come from a rural background and have reached this position through hard work. I have always remained committed to my values,” he said.
He further claimed that police visited two temporary addresses in Hyderabad to serve notices. However, he said no notice was delivered to his permanent residence in Ullapalem.
He added that he was voluntarily travelling to Hyderabad to assist the investigating officers. He also said he had no intention of avoiding the legal process.
Expresses faith in investigation
Meanwhile, the trainee IPS officer said he had complete faith in the judiciary and the police. He assured that he would fully cooperate with the investigation.
As the matter is pending before a court, he declined to comment further on the allegations.
“I have complete faith in the judicial and police systems. I will cooperate with the investigation and am confident that the truth will emerge through the legal process,” he said.
Case registered on trainee officer’s complaint
Earlier this month, Attapur police registered a criminal case against Uday Krishna Reddy. The case was based on a complaint filed by a 30-year-old married trainee IPS officer from Karnataka.
In her complaint, she accused her batchmate of sexual harassment, assault, stalking, criminal intimidation, voyeurism and blackmail during their training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad.
She also alleged that he secretly recorded a private video and sent it to her husband. Furthermore, an internal inquiry at the academy reportedly found prima facie merit in her complaint.
Hospitalised after suspected suicide attempt
Following the registration of the FIR, Uday Krishna Reddy was found unconscious and admitted to a private hospital in Hyderabad.
Initially, reports described the incident as a suspected suicide attempt. However, later medical updates reportedly suggested that the alleged suicide attempt may have been staged to gain sympathy and divert attention from the sexual harassment case.
