HYDERABAD: Swiss investment bank and financial services major UBS on Tuesday opened a new global capability centre (GCC) at Gachibowli. The company plans to house over 3,000 technology professionals at the facility over the next few years.

The expansion will double UBS’s headcount in the city to around 6,000.

Centre to focus on cloud and AI

The GCC has begun operations with about 1,000 employees. It will focus on cloud, data engineering, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu inaugurated the facility on Wednesday.

UBS set up its shared services GCC in Hyderabad in 2020. Since then, its workforce in the city has grown to about 3,000.

As reported by The Times of India, the new centre marks a major expansion of the bank’s technology operations in the city.

State projects Hyderabad as GCC hub

Matthias Schacke, head of India Service Company and Group Operation and Technology Office India at UBS, said Hyderabad remains a key growth location due to its talent pool, supportive policies and infrastructure.

Sridhar Babu said Telangana is building a strong ecosystem for global capability centres and described UBS as a partner in the state’s growth. He added that the expansion strengthens Hyderabad’s position in global innovation and contributes to India-Switzerland and European Union economic ties.

Telangana IT and Industries Special Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar said UBS’s rapid growth in Hyderabad shows what is possible when global institutions engage with an ecosystem designed for scale and future readiness.

He said the new facility will support high-end skill creation, boost cross-border collaboration and further integrate Hyderabad into global financial and technology value chains.
