Elderly siblings found unresponsive in locked Sultanpura flat

HYDERABAD: Two senior citizens were found dead in a locked flat at Sultanpura under Mirchowk police station limits on Wednesday, police said.
The deceased were identified as Md Shakeel and his sister Sarwar Begum. Both were unmarried and had been living in the flat for nearly 40 years. Police said the door was locked from the inside and the bodies were in an advanced stage of decomposition, indicating death occurred two to three days earlier.
According to police, Sarwar Begum was physically disabled and unable to walk. Shakeel was taking care of her and managing household needs. As the siblings had no children or close family members, their absence went unnoticed for several days.
Mirchowk police reached the spot after neighbours alerted them to a foul smell emanating from the flat. Preliminary inspection did not reveal any signs of forced entry.
The bodies were shifted to Osmania mortuary for postmortem examination. Police said investigations are on to ascertain whether the deaths were due to natural causes or suicide.
Further details will be known after the postmortem reports, police added.
