Railway police nab two couriers carrying ganja worth ₹18.1 lakh

HYDERABAD: The Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested two men and seized marijuana worth ₹18.18 lakh while busting an interstate drug smuggling racket at Secunderabad railway station.
The arrested persons were identified as Sudhanshu Kumar, a data engineer working in Pune, and Suman Kumar, a native of Bihar.
According to police, the duo was transporting ganja from Sambalpur in Odisha to Wadi in Karnataka through Secunderabad. Investigators said the accused had been recruited by interstate drug peddlers from Maharashtra and were promised ₹10,000 for each trip.
Contraband carried in bags
Police said the accused travelled on the Nagavali Express carrying the contraband in trolley bags and backpacks.
During the journey, the suspects allegedly got down at Charlapalli railway station after noticing checks being conducted by railway police personnel. They reportedly stayed at a lodge for two days before reaching Secunderabad railway station to resume their journey.
Arrest after tip-off
Acting on a tip-off, GRP and RPF personnel intercepted and arrested the two men at Secunderabad railway station. The contraband was seized during the operation.
Police said two alleged masterminds behind the racket are on the run. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest them.
The case is being investigated to identify other members of the interstate drug network and determine the extent of its operations.
