Two held for Alkapoor chain-snatching, stolen scooter and gold recovered
HYDERABAD: Narsingi police have arrested two 29-year-old men from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh for allegedly robbing a woman of her 32-gram gold mangalasutram at Alkapoor Township last month. Police recovered about 22 grams of gold and a scooter allegedly stolen from near AIG Hospitals.
The accused were identified as Dommaranandyala Surya Teja and Palagiri Rajamohan Reddy. Police said they intercepted the two in the Alkapoor area on August 2 while they were travelling on the stolen scooter.
Woman pushed down after mangalasutram snatched
According to police, P Mounika was walking alone on Road No. 14 in Alkapoor Township around 21.15 IST on July 9 when two men approached her on a blue scooter.
The duo allegedly snatched her gold mangalasutram, weighing about 32 grams, pushed her and fled. Narsingi police registered Crime No. 1300/2026 on July 10 under Section 309 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for robbery.
Police said the Narsingi Central Crime Station (CCS) team and the police station crime team used technical surveillance and human intelligence to trace the suspects. The two allegedly tried to flee when police intercepted them on August 2 but were caught.
During questioning, the accused admitted to committing the chain-snatching offence, police said.
Scooter stolen near AIG Hospitals used in offence
Investigators found that the blue Suzuki Access scooter bearing registration number TS08FY1636 had allegedly been stolen from near AIG Hospitals.
A case, Crime No. 1417/2025 under Section 305(b) of the BNS, had been registered at Raidurgam police station in connection with the scooter theft. Police said the accused subsequently used the vehicle for the robbery in Narsingi police station limits.
Police said Surya Teja, a native of Nagarajupeta in Kadapa, told investigators that his mother’s ill-health and financial difficulties had led him to commit the offence. Rajamohan Reddy, from Pedda Chowtapalli in Kadapa, cited online betting and financial problems, according to the Telugu press note.
Police seized about 20 grams of melted gold, two gold pustelu weighing about two grams, the Suzuki Access scooter and two mobile phones from the accused.
Police urge residents to promptly report suspicious activity
Police said the case was investigated under the supervision of senior Cyberabad and Serilingampally zone officers. The English press note credited the Narsingi CCS team headed by G Murali Kumar and Detective Inspector G Rajesh and his team with detecting the case. The Cyberabad police commissioner appreciated their efforts.
Cyberabad police advised people to remain vigilant, particularly while travelling late at night, and report suspicious persons, vehicles or criminal activity by dialling 100 or approaching the nearest police station.
Police said prompt reporting could help officers respond quickly and improve the chances of apprehending offenders. They warned that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in robbery, snatching and other violent crimes.
