HYDERABAD: Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao remains stranded in Dubai after flight operations were disrupted amid tensions between Iran and the United States.

Rao had travelled to Dubai after his elder son-in-law, Dr Kalyan Shekhar, collapsed at Dubai airport with a brain stroke while attending a medical conference. He was admitted to a hospital on February 22.

On learning about the incident, the minister reached Dubai with family members on February 23.

Flight disruptions halt scheduled departure

With Shekhar’s condition stabilising, Rao booked a return ticket for March 5. However, reported attacks on Dubai airport amid the Iran-US conflict led to disruptions in flights, leaving him unable to travel back.

Minister denies social media allegations

Rao expressed anguish over social media and YouTube claims that he had travelled to Dubai for leisure with his family. He clarified that the visit was solely due to the medical emergency.

Meanwhile, the minister announced that drones would be distributed to farmers under subsidy.

Under the agricultural mechanisation scheme, 10 drones will be provided in the first phase to the district, he said.
