TSRTC bus data to appear soon on Google Maps

HYDERABAD: Telangana’s public transport system is set to go smarter, with Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus information soon to be integrated with Google Maps.
Officials said commuters would be able to track bus movement, estimated arrival times, and routes in real-time on Google Maps. This move follows issues with the existing Gamyam app, which often faced glitches while showing live bus data. TSRTC will share operational data with Google within a week to 10 days, and Hyderabad city bus information is expected to go live by Diwali. Data for buses across the rest of the state will be added in phases.
QR-based tickets and digital passes
The state’s Electronic Service Delivery (ESD) department is expanding services through the Mee Ticket app, enabling passengers to book intercity services and purchase QR code–based digital tickets and bus passes. Officials said the new features would launch soon under the state’s Smart Mobility Plan.
Currently, commuters can already book tickets and monthly passes through the Mee Ticket app. Since its launch on January 9, over 1.35 lakh people have downloaded the app, with 2.6 lakh ticket bookings and transactions exceeding ₹2 crore. The app has a user rating above 3.5 stars and offers tourism booking services in 221 locations.
E-buses and green fee plan
To curb noise and air pollution, TSRTC plans to gradually phase out diesel buses from city routes and replace them with electric buses. Currently, 265 e-buses are in operation, with 275 more expected within three months.
Over the next three years, Hyderabad will get 2,800 electric buses. All city depots will be upgraded with EV charging facilities and high-tension power lines at an estimated cost of ₹392 crore—₹10 crore per depot.
To fund this, the corporation plans to collect a “green fee” of ₹5–₹10 per ticket. Officials estimate it could generate ₹110 crore annually and ₹220 crore over two years.
