K. Kavitha launches nationwide social justice campaign, seeks 50% BC quota
HYDERABAD: Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president K. Kavitha on Thursday launched a nationwide Social Justice Campaign at the Telangana Sankalpa Sabha. Participants adopted a series of resolutions on reservations, constitutional rights and inclusive governance.
Call for BC quota and recognition of social reformers
The Sabha resolved to launch a nationwide movement to unite Backward Class (BC) communities until they secure 50% reservation in legislative bodies.
Participants also urged the Union government to confer the Bharat Ratna on social reformers Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule for their contributions to education and social equality.
The gathering demanded the installation of a statue of Prof. K. Jayashankar at Hyderabad’s Tank Bund. It also urged the government to honour him with the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to the Telangana movement.
Focus on SC welfare, tribal rights and women’s reservation
The Sabha called for an end to the diversion of constitutionally allocated Scheduled Caste (SC) funds. It said authorities must use every rupee earmarked for SC welfare only for the development of SC communities.
Participants also demanded special recruitment drives to fill all pending SC backlog vacancies in Central and State government departments.
The gathering sought full implementation of forest rights for Adivasis. It also demanded reservation benefits for tribal communities living in plain areas.
The Sabha urged Parliament to pass the 33% Women’s Reservation Bill immediately. It said the government should not link its implementation to the delimitation process.
Commitment to constitutional justice
Speakers said the campaign reflects a renewed commitment to equality, constitutional justice and inclusive governance.
They described it as the beginning of a nationwide movement for social justice. They also reaffirmed their commitment to achieving the resolutions adopted at the Sabha.
