Jayesh Ranjan addressing GHMC Standing Committee on CURE reorganisation in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Jayesh Ranjan, Special Officer of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, said the newly constituted municipal corporations under the Core Urban Region (CURE) framework must focus on responsive and efficient governance. He was addressing the first Standing Committee meeting following the reorganisation of GHMC at its head office on Thursday.

Ranjan urged officials to work with commitment to meet citizens’ expectations. The committee approved key proposals, including the constitution of Cyberabad, Malkajgiri and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporations; continuation of Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, Charminar, Golconda, Khairatabad and Secunderabad zones under GHMC; allocation of staff to Cyberabad and Malkajgiri; and ₹500 crore each as budgetary support for the two new bodies.

Officials directed to speed up civic works
R.V. Karnan presented a detailed report on sanitation, solid waste management, alternative dumping yard sites, flood mitigation, infrastructure projects, staff allocation and progress of SRDP, SNDP and H-City works. He also reviewed monsoon preparedness, streetlight maintenance, grievance redressal and road safety.

Ranjan directed the Commissioner, Additional Commissioners and Zonal Commissioners to accelerate development works and ensure visible improvement in civic services within six months. Calling the reorganisation an opportunity to bring governance closer to citizens, he asked departments to prioritise road repairs, street lighting and completion of pending infrastructure projects.

Task force to oversee trifurcation process
A task force under the Centre for Good Governance has been set up to allocate assets, liabilities and staff among the three corporations. It will study the matter and submit recommendations within 10 days. Ranjan noted that while IT-enabled reforms would take time, effective municipal management could yield immediate impact.

Citing Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s focus on urban governance, he asked officials to leverage state support to deliver measurable outcomes. Praising Commissioner Karnan as a “result-oriented officer,” he highlighted his prior work in food safety enforcement, district administration and the GHMC reorganisation process.

Sanitation contests to improve cleanliness
To improve sanitation, competitions will be held among the three corporations. Wards achieving garbage-vulnerable-point-free status will be recognised with certificates and cash rewards. Corporators, NGOs and citizens contributing to cleanliness drives will also be honoured.

The meeting was attended by GHMC Commissioner Karnan; Additional Commissioners K.A. Mangatayaru and K. Satyanarayana; Zonal Commissioners Anurag Jayanti, Priyanka Ala, N. Ravi Kiran, S. Srinivasa Reddy and G. Mukunda Reddy; HMWS&SB Joint Managing Director Mayank Mittal; Executive Director N. Samrat Ashok; ASP Vigilance Narasimha Reddy; Chief Engineer Ratnakar; CCP K. Srinivas; Financial Advisor Sharath Chandra and other senior officials.
