Hyderabad: Telangana’s Transport Commissioner issued a stern warning on January 10, 2025, announcing that strict action will be taken against private travel buses violating regulations during the Sankranti festival rush.

The commissioner emphasized that cases will be filed against buses found violating permit rules or charging fares above the prescribed limits. He also warned of legal consequences for violators.

District transport department officials have been instructed to carry out special inspections of private travel buses, ensuring adherence to regulations. So far, 150 cases have been booked against CC buses for violations.

The Commissioner further highlighted the need for experienced drivers to operate private buses, stressing that a passenger list and designated attendant must be maintained. Additionally, all contract carriage bus regulations must be strictly followed. Non-compliance could result in vehicle seizures.

Recent reports, including complaints and media coverage, indicate that some private vehicles violate Motor Vehicle Rules, particularly during the Sankranti season. Many of these buses run between the Telugu states without proper permits or tax payments. These vehicles, registered as contract carriages, are illegally operating on routes typically served by Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), charging excessive fares without maintaining safety standards. Such violations have led to accidents, with some resulting in fatalities.

Transport authorities have called on Joint Transport Commissioner (JTC) Hyderabad, along with District Transport Officers (DTOs), to monitor and act against such violations closely. The enforcement teams are also tasked with conducting a special drive from January 7 to 16 every year to curb illegal operations of private buses, particularly those traveling to other states from the GHMC area.

The Transport Commissioner’s office reiterated that strict vigilance and prompt action are crucial to ensuring passenger safety and upholding regulatory standards.
