Telangana floods: Train services paralyzed

Hyderabad :Heavy rains across Telangana have caused widespread flooding, leading to severe disruptions throughout the region. Further Significant downpour led to severe damage to infrastructure and resulted in the washing away of railway tracks in several areas. Further several trains running through the region have been cancelled, resulting in significant disruptions to train services.

In a statement South Central railway said, “Due to heavy rains and water logging over the tracks at several locations on South Central Railway, the following trains are cancelled / diverted”. The Vijayawada-Kazipet railway route was severely impacted as the track between Intikanne and Kesamudram was destroyed due to the flooding. The gravel on both upper and lower rail lines was washed away, and flood waters continued to flow over the tracks in Mahabubabad’s suburbs. As a precaution, trains like the Machilipatnam and Simhapuri Express were halted at Mahabubabad railway station.

Further disruptions were reported in Mathampally, Suryapet, where a railway track was also washed away due to the relentless rains. Due to the tracks washed away Trains on the Vijayawada-Kazipet route, including Simhadri, Machilipatnam, Gautami, Sanghamitra Express, Ganga-Kaveri, Charminar, and Yeswantpur Express, were all brought to a standstill.

Further South Central Railway in order to facilitate Passengers with train running information, South Central Railway has set up additional Helpline Numbers at important Railway Stations to assist stranded passengers as authorities work to restore services. In a statement DGP said, “A portion of gravel under the railway track near Kesamudram in Mahabubabad district was washed away due to floodwaters, stranding passengers on a train at Kesamudram railway station. In order to alleviate their difficulties, Rural CI Sarvayya, SI Muralidhar, and other staff provided food, water bottles, and biscuit packets”. Director General of Police Dr. Jitender appreciated the Mahabubabad district police personnel for their commendable efforts.
