TPCC urges Telangana CEO to hold Gram Sabhas on August 15

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Election Commission Co-ordination Committee on Tuesday urged Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C Sudarshan Reddy to facilitate Gram Sabhas across Telangana on August 15 and have electoral roll details read out at the meetings.
Committee chairman Pulipati Rajesh Kumar, along with members Gopishetty Raghavender, Wajid Hussain and Kasaba Srinivas, met the CEO and submitted a representation seeking the exercise on Independence Day.
TPCC cites provision in electoral roll manual
Rajesh Kumar said the committee requested that Gram Sabhas be held across the state on August 15, a practice which, according to the representation, is generally followed across the country.
The committee cited Paragraph 11.2.2.6 of the Voter List Manual, 2023, and said the entire draft electoral roll should be read aloud at Gram Sabhas.
It also referred to the ongoing enumeration exercise and said the enumeration phase was scheduled to end on August 10. By then, a list of voters categorised as absent, shifted, duplicate and dead (ASDD) would be prepared, the committee said.
The TPCC delegation requested the CEO to ensure that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) read out the relevant details at Gram Sabhas.
Party says exercise will help voters raise complaints
According to the representation, the exercise would allow voters to know their electoral roll status. Those having doubts or complaints could then raise them after the publication of the draft electoral roll on August 17, the committee said.
Rajesh Kumar also told the CEO that a similar process was being followed in Jharkhand. The delegation submitted to the CEO a copy of a circular issued in Jharkhand in support of its request.
