Hyderabad: The EdelGive-Hurun India Philanthropy List 2024 has been unveiled, showcasing the country’s most generous philanthropists. Among the standout new entrants this year are Krishna Chivukula, PV Krishna Reddy, and PV Pitchi Reddy, all of whom have made significant contributions to key social causes.

Krishna Chivukula, the chairman of INDO MIM, has made a remarkable debut, securing the seventh position on the prestigious list with a generous donation of INR 228 crore. An alumnus of IIT Madras, Krishna Chivukula’s contribution, which marks the largest donation in the institution’s history, will be used to fund various initiatives, including fellowships for top BTech students, sports programs, and cutting-edge research projects.

Joining Krishna Chivukula in this year’s ranks of top new philanthropists are the industrialists PV Krishna Reddy and P Pitchi Reddy, founders of Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL). Both Hyderabad-based philanthropists have made significant donations toward poverty alleviation. PV Krishna Reddy, aged 55, donated INR 33 crore, while his brother, PV Pitchi Reddy, aged 67, contributed INR 32 crore, marking their joint entry into the top 10 list of new donors. Their contributions reflect a shared commitment to community welfare and poverty eradication through various programs aimed at improving the lives of underprivileged populations.

The EdelGive-Hurun India Philanthropy List 2024, now in its 11th edition, highlights the contributions of India’s leading philanthropists from April 2023 to March 2024. The report reveals that the top 10 donors alone accounted for nearly 53% of the total donations, with a combined contribution of INR 4,625 crore. Education remains a central focus for many donors, with six of the top 10 focusing on enhancing access to quality education across India.

Shiv Nadar and Mukesh Ambani Lead the List

At the top of the list, Shiv Nadar and his family retained their position as the most generous donors, contributing INR 2,153 crore through the Shiv Nadar Foundation. Their philanthropic focus on education has led to the creation of institutions like Shiv Nadar University and VidyaGyan, which provide world-class educational opportunities for deserving students, particularly from underprivileged backgrounds.

Mukesh Ambani and his family secured second place, contributing INR 407 crore through the Reliance Foundation. Their philanthropic initiatives span a wide range of areas, including rural transformation, healthcare, sports development, and heritage conservation.

Other notable philanthropists in the top 10 include the Bajaj family (INR 352 crore), Kumar Mangalam Birla and his family (INR 334 crore), and Gautam Adani and his family (INR 330 crore). The Bajaj Group Trust continues to focus on education, particularly in the field of engineering, while the Adani Foundation directs its efforts toward education for remote villages.

New Entrants and Rising Donors

This year’s list includes 96 new philanthropists who have made donations of INR 5 crore or more, with Krishna Chivukula leading the way as the most generous new entrant. Following him are P N C Menon and his family, who donated INR 71 crore through the Sobha Foundation, and Nandlal Rungta and his family, who contributed INR 61 crore through the Rungta Sons Foundation. These new entrants contribute substantially and demonstrate a growing commitment to causes like education, water conservation, and healthcare.

Other notable new entrants include Savji Dholakia, who donated INR 44 crore for water conservation via the Dholakia Foundation, and Ajit Isaac, who made a donation of INR 43 crore for healthcare initiatives through his Ajit Isaac Foundation. Karsanbhai Patel and his family, who contributed INR 40 crore for women’s empowerment through the Nirma Education and Research Foundation, and Mukund Rungta and his family, who donated INR 36 crore for education, are also among the top new philanthropists.

Among the top 10 new entrants, PV Krishna Reddy and PV Pitchi Reddy stand out as significant contributors to poverty eradication efforts. Their combined donation of INR 65 crore through the Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Foundation highlights their dedication to improving the lives of underserved communities in India.
