Tollywood actor Venu booked in Hydropower project case

Hyderabad: Hyderabad CCS police registered a case on Wednesday against actor-turned-businessman Thottempudi Venu and Progressive Constructions executives Bhaskar Rao, Hemalatha, Srivani, and MD Paturi Praveen for alleged breach of agreement in Uttarakhand hydroelectric project.
According to the police, Progressive Constructions had previously secured a contract for the execution of civil works at a hydroelectric project in Uttarakhand through Tehri Development Corporation (THDC). Ritwik Projects and Swathi Constructions, based in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, took the contract as subcontractors. However, Swathi Constructions withdrew midway, leading Ritwik to begin work in 2002.
Subsequently, a dispute arose between Progressive Constructions and THDC, leading both parties to approach the Delhi High Court. Acting on the directives of the court, both the parties deposited an amount of Rs. 1,010.25 crore in THDC’s account for the project.
However, Venu and the executives of Progressive Constructions canceled their agreement with Ritwik, prompting its managing director Ravi Krishna to move the court. Subsequently, the Nampally Second Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate directed the police to register a case against Venu and four others.
Venu made his Tollywood debut with ‘Swayamvaram’ which proved to be a hit movie. He worked in several successful films such as Manasu Paddanu Kaani, Chirunavvutho, Khushi Khushiga and Cheppave Chirugali among others.
After a long sabbatical, Venu made a comeback in 2022 with ‘Ramarao On Duty’ and also appeared in the web series ‘Athidhi’.
