Hyderabad: Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) chief and Professor M Kodandaram and Amir Ali Khan took oath as MLCs under Governor’s quota in the presence of Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy on Friday.

Muddasani Kodandaram Reddy known as M. Kodandaram is an Indian political activist who fought for the separate statehood for Telangana region.The son of a farmer from Mancherial in erstwhile Adilabad district, Kodandaram was born in 1955, did the major part of his education in Warangal, then considered the epicenter of the Telangana movement.

After completing his degree from Warangal government college, he joined Osmania University in 1976 to pursue his post-graduation in political science. He completed his M.Phil in political science from JNU in 1980 and returned to the state and joined Hyderabad Central University as a research scholar. After a few months, where he was appointed as a lecturer in political science in Osmania University.He finally obtained his doctorate from OU in 2003.During the statehood movement he was also the convener of all-party Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC).

Another MLC Amer Ali Khan, News Editor of the Siasat Daily, largest urdu daily in the country, has been in the profession of news since 1994 covering a wide range of areas. Having completed his Bachelors in Communication and Journalism from the prestigious Osmania University and Masters in Business Administration from Sultan –ul-Uloom he has been instrumental in forming an alliance of Ten Urdu Dailies for content. Under his tutelage Siasat Daily which was edited and published from Hyderabad has now expanded to Middle East edition at Qatar and of course in India the IT city Bengaluru.

The two members were first nominated in January. However the Telangana High Court deferred their swearing-in. The direction from the court came following a petition filed by BRS leaders Dasoju Shravan and Kurra Satyanarayana, challenging the nomination of Professor Kodandaram and Amir Ali Khan under the Governor’s quota.

Ministers Ponna Prabhakar and Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy attended the oath taking ceremony.
