Jagtial Tiger Sighting Sparks Alert, Forest Teams Step Up Monitoring

HYDERABAD: Forest officials reported fresh tiger sightings at Kalikota Thanda in Kathalapur mandal of Jagtial district on March 23, 2026, and quickly stepped up monitoring and safety measures.
Earlier, camera traps confirmed the tiger’s presence in Kodimyal mandal, ending a 25-day period of uncertainty. Infrared sensors had also captured a four-and-a-half-year-old tiger feeding on a carcass near Gangaram Thanda.
Meanwhile, farmers at Kalikota Thanda spotted the animal near agricultural fields during the early hours, which increased concern among local residents.
Following these sightings, district forest officer M. Ravi Prasad redeployed specialised tracking teams to the Kathalapur region to closely monitor the tiger’s movement.
At the same time, officials introduced several precautionary measures. They began ‘dappu’ announcements to warn villagers and advised them not to venture out alone.
Additionally, authorities are disconnecting three-phase power supply during night hours in identified areas to reduce the risk of accidental encounters and electrocution.
Forest officials also warned people not to harm the animal. They stressed that the tiger is under constant watch and is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, adding that strict legal action will be taken against any vigilantism.
Finally, rescue teams equipped with tranquilisers remain on standby and will relocate the tiger if necessary.
