Tiger captured on infrared camera near Gangaram Thanda in Jagtial district

HYDERABAD: Forest officials have confirmed a tiger’s presence in a border village of Jagtial district. Camera traps captured the animal near Gangaram Thanda in Kodimyal mandal, ending a 25-day search.

A series of cattle attacks led to the confirmation. The tiger killed a cow and a calf earlier, but officials had treated those reports as unverified.

Infrared cameras recorded the tiger around 12:30 am IST. It returned to feed on a carcass placed at a suspected site.

District Forest Officer M. Ravi Prasad said the tiger is about four-and-a-half years old. He added that it has been moving in the Kodimyal forest area for the past week.

“The tiger has been roaming in Kodimyal forests for a week. It killed a cow on Sunday night and ate part of it. It returned at midnight on Monday, and our cameras captured it,” he said.

Monitoring Intensified

Officials have deployed four teams to track the tiger’s movement. A rescue team remains ready to tranquilise and relocate the animal if needed.

Authorities have warned residents in Gangaram Thanda and nearby villages. They advised people to avoid going out alone at night and to move in groups during the day.

Teams also made drum-beating announcements in villages to spread awareness.

Safety Measures in Place

Officials have cut three-phase power supply during night hours as a precaution.

The forest department has given ₹5,000 as immediate relief to affected cattle owners. Officials will process further compensation soon.
