Hyderabad girls set Guinness World Record in massive Kuchipudi dance feat

Hyderabad: Three girl students from Hyderabad have achieved a remarkable feat by securing a Guinness World Record in the field of dance. The achievement came through their participation in the largest Kuchipudi dance organised by Bharath Art Academy.

Recently, Gangone Dhrithi, an eight-year-old girl from Pallavi Model School in Alwal, set the Guinness World Record during the Kuchipudi dance organised by Bharath Art Academy at Gachibowli Stadium on December 23, 2023.

She accomplished this remarkable success by completing 20 knee-to-elbow steps in 30 seconds in the under-16 category. Dhrithi’s parents and instructors said she always focused on balance, coordination and confidence while practicing the Kuchipudi dance.

The parents said she actively takes part in all co-curricular activities at her school as well as inter-school competitions across the city.

Another title holder, M Anjana Sree, who is studying in class 9, said it was a unique experience for her as the record bid involved 4,218 dancers performing synchronized Kuchipudi. She added that celebrations broke out at home after the family learned the group had broken the old record.

Recalling her preparations, Sree said that it all started a year and a half ago when her Kuchipudi mentor told them about a special opportunity where students from their academy could take part in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record, where a total of 4,218 dancers would perform together.

“At such a young age, receiving the certificate and medal was a dream come true. It is an unforgettable milestone in my journey,” the Guinness World Record holder said.

The third fellow record holder Hamsini is also equally delighted. She said she was extremely excited to participate in such a prestigious event. She completed the mandatory steps under the prescribed time limit. All the participants worked incredibly hard to participate in the grand performance at Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad, she added.
