In response to Harsha’s alert, the GHMC assured prompt action, stating, “Dear citizen, your concern has been brought to the notice of the Zonal Commissioner of Khairatabad and other officials.”
Harsha expressed grave concern about the safety implications, warning that the banner’s precarious position atop the flyover signboard could lead to tragic accidents if it were to fall on passing commuters. He urged both the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) authorities and traffic police to swiftly remove the hazard.
Residents of Hyderabad echoed these concerns, citing similar dangerous situations at other locations such as Karbala Maidan in Ranigunj, Rasoolpura Junction, and Tank Bund.
MA Ahmed, a concerned resident, highlighted the need for stricter regulations governing the placement and fixation of banners, suggesting that such fixtures, especially during adverse weather conditions, pose significant risks to public safety.
Speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, MA Ahmed said, “A law regulating the fixation of flex banners must be enacted. Charges should be imposed based on size and location, similar to provisions for erecting banners on metro pillars. The current practice of haphazard fixing combined with rain and strong winds creates a fatal hazard for commuters. Immediate action by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is crucial to prevent potential accidents.”
Ahmed urged the GHMC authorities to address these issues promptly before any untoward incidents occur. The community remains vigilant, hoping for swift resolution and enhanced safety measures across Hyderabad’s public spaces.
