HYDERABAD: Thread Pochampally, a first-of-its-kind celebration of Telangana’s globally recognised Pochampally Ikat heritage, opened at the HITEX Exhibition Centre, Hall 4, on Friday. The three-day exhibition will continue until Sunday.
Ministers launch handloom and heritage exhibition
The Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district administration organised the event. Agriculture, Marketing, Co-operation, Handlooms and Textiles Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao inaugurated the exhibition. Roads and Buildings and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy also attended the event. Senior officials, artisans, industry representatives and handloom enthusiasts joined the programme.
The ministers cut the ribbon at a specially designed entrance pavilion. The pavilion gives visitors an introduction to the world of Pochampally Ikat.
AI booth gives visitors a virtual Ikat experience
A major attraction at the exhibition is an Artificial Intelligence-powered booth. Visitors can virtually try on different Pochampally Ikat outfits through an interactive digital platform.
The exhibition also takes visitors through the Ikat-making process. Visual displays explain how artisans transform yarn into intricate woven products.
More than 100 stalls display authentic handloom products. These include traditional sarees, contemporary apparel, menswear, home furnishings and lifestyle products.
Tourism packages offer village visits
The exhibition showcases the versatility of Pochampally weaving. It also highlights natural fibres, traditional skills and sustainable production methods.
Telangana Tourism is promoting customised tour packages to Pochampally weaving villages. Visitors can meet artisan families, watch traditional looms in action and learn about the region’s unique handloom tradition.
Telangana folk artistes opened the event with cultural performances that celebrated the state’s rich heritage.
The pavilion also features working handlooms and handwoven creations by Padma Shri award-winning artisans. Artistic installations display natural dyes and the ingredients used to create them. These elements form the foundation of the iconic Pochampally weaving tradition.
