Thousands Join 'waqf Bachao March' In Hyderabad Against Amendment

Hyderabad: As Muslim groups observe the week from April 11 as ‘Tahaffuz-e-Auqaf’ week’ to oppose the Waqf amendment bill passed by Parliament, thousands of Muslims took out a protest rally titled ‘Waqf Bachao March’ in Hyderabad on Sunday.

The protest rally started at Nizam College grounds and ended at the Dr. BR Ambedkar statue at Tank Bund. Holding banners calling for repeal of the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, the protesters raised slogans against the BJP-led central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Terming the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025 unconstitutional, the protesters claimed the Act was introduced to target Muslim minorities and their waqf properties.

The protest march saw huge participation from Muslim women. Congress MP Imran Masood, TMREIS chairman – Faheem Qureshi, Advisor to Government on Minority Affairs – Mohammed Ali Shabbir, and others also attended the rally. Despite the police making elaborate security arrangements, vehicular traffic movement disrupted at several intersections in the city.

Meanwhile, AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi appealed to PM Modi to reconsider the Waqf (Amendment) Act. He said the ‘black law’ is a gross violation of Articles 14, 15, 25, 26 and 29 of the Constitution of India. The MIM leader stated that there are certain ‘discriminatory’ provisions in the Act.

“In the endowment boards of Hindus, Jains and Sikhs, only those who follow those faiths can become members. The Limitation Act does not apply to endowment boards of these religions; by usage, they can become owners of properties, and people practising other religions can also donate their property to endowment boards of these religions. The Modi government, through this amendment bill, has snatched all these rights from the Muslim religious board,” Owaisi said.
