Fact Check: Is HYDRAA being extended to all districts in Telangana?
Claim:
The Telangana government has approved the expansion of HYDRAA across the state.
Fact:
The government has taken no such decision. The viral claim is false.
Posts circulating on social media claimed that the Telangana government had decided to expand the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) to all districts in the state.
To verify the claim, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords. Several media reports clarified that the viral posts were based on comments made by HYDRAA Commissioner A V Ranganath, which were taken out of context.
According to an official clarification issued by HYDRAA, the Commissioner visited Nalgonda to attend a private event. During an informal interaction, local journalists asked him about HYDRAA’s functioning.
In response to a journalist’s suggestion that a system like HYDRAA should be implemented across the state, Ranganath said that many people were asking for such a mechanism.
HYDRAA later clarified that his remarks only reflected public demand and did not indicate that the government had approved a statewide expansion. The agency also stated that HYDRAA’s jurisdiction remains limited to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) area in Hyderabad.
