Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has decided to run 6,432 special RTC buses to clear the extra rush of passengers during the Sankranti festival season.

The special bus services will be operational from January 9 to 15, 2025 considering the convenience of commuters who visit their native place to celebrate the festival with their family and friends.

Out of the 6,432 special RTC buses, 557 services will have a reservation facility. Last Sankranti, the Corporation had announced 4,484 special buses for the festival, however, it operated about 5,246 due to the increased demand. To prevent inconvenience to the passengers, the officials have increased the number of special bus services to 6,432 this Sankranti.

Additionally, the RTC officials have clarified that the free bus transport facility for women will continue in the state. They added that the free travel facility will be available in Palle Velugu, Express, City Ordinary and Metro Express buses running for Sankranti as part of the state governmentโ€™s Mahalaxmi scheme.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has said it will operate 2,400 special buses for passengers going to their hometowns from Hyderabad to their hometowns in Andhra Pradesh.

The boarding points for the special buses in Hyderabad are Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS), Jubilee Bus Station (JBS), Uppal Cross Roads, Aramghar X Roads, LB Nagar, KPHB, Bowenpally, and Gachibowli.

During the festival season, the state RTC will also operate buses from Hyderabad to other districts like Amalapuram, Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Tirupati, among other districts in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh while regular and special buses bound for various destinations, including Kurnool, Anantapur, Chittoor, Nellore, Ongole, and Macharla, will be departing from the Old Central Bus Station (CBS).

These buses are being planned to run from January 9 to 13, 2025. The RTC announced that these special buses will charge only regular fares for passengers.
