TGSPDCL Chief orders removal of hanging cables from electric poles in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGSPDCL) Chairman and Managing Director Musharraf Faruqui has called cable operators and Internet Service Providers to remove all the cables and other materials hanging dangerously from electric poles in Hyderabad City.
In a review meeting held at the corporate office with representatives of cable operators, internet service providers, and cable associations, Faruqui expressed deep concern over the increasing risk posed to pedestrians, motorists, and electricity staff due to the arrangement of cables. The excessive weight of cables, bundles, and telecom equipment has caused several electric poles to bend, while scattered cables on footpaths have become a major public safety hazard.
He stated that the recent feeder survey conducted by the TGSPDCL revealed a troubling number of unused cables and other materials cluttering the poles, impeding the electricity staff’s work.
Musharraf Faruqui requested the operators and Internet Service Providers to take the necessary action to remove hanging lines and install the cables as per the rules. He directed that the poles on main roads be cleared within one week and those on other roads within two weeks.
It was reported earlier that downed wires in Hyderabad, including on flyovers and local streets, pose serious hazards, particularly during the monsoon season when electric shock increases. Residents, including Ahmed from Begumpet, have expressed concerns about the dangers of hanging electric and WiFi wires, urging the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (TGSPDCL) to address the issue.
Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Ahmed also suggested that TGSPDCL conduct inspections and repairs.
Additionally, a citizen named Adarsh has raised the issue on social media, requesting immediate action from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to address dangerous wires in Ushodaya Enclave, Hafeezpet.
Citizens experiencing electricity issues can submit their complaints online via the official website of the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (TSSPDCL): https://webportal.tgsouthernpower.org/NPC/.
