TGPCB slaps Ten lakh fine against White Waters firm for pollution violations in Kukatpally
Kukatpally: Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) slaps over ten lakhs fine against White Waters Constructions Private Limited for multiple environmental non-compliance at its residential apartment project in Kukatpally.
The company was found operating a Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plant and started construction without necessary environmental clearances from the pollution control board.
The violations were revealed by a complaint from Balaji Nagar division, GHMC corporator P. Sirisha, who highlighted air and sound pollution issues in the area. In February, she filed a complaint with TGPCB against White Water Ventures construction projects, stating that the surrounding people are facing air and sound pollution problems due to blasting from the building construction projects in the area.
TGPCB officials inspected the site in March and found critical violations. There were heaps of stone dust and aggregates causing significant air pollution. The project started excavation without obtaining Consent for Operation (CFO) from the board.
Issued closure order in July
Following multiple notices and a task force committee meeting in July 2024, the TGPCB issued closure orders. Further, the TGPCB directed the Telangana State Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) to disconnect power supply to the project, executed in August 2024.
The environmental compensation was calculated using a formula that considered various factors like pollution index, violation duration, scale of operation, and location. It covered 144 days of violations from March 2 to July 24, 2024.
In a November TGPCB order, it said, “After careful consideration of material facts, White Waters Constructions Private Limited was directed to deposit Ten Lakhs Eighty Thousand towards Environmental Compensation within 15 days from the order date”.
