Telangana Human Rights Commission hearing on MEO messengers remuneration

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of allegations that a premature infant lost an arm following alleged medical negligence at the Government Mother and Child Welfare Centre in Khammam.

TGHRC Member (Judicial) Shivadi Praveena took up the matter on Sunday based on a news report published in Andhra Jyothy on May 31, 2026. The report alleged that the infant, who was undergoing treatment after a premature birth, had to undergo amputation of the left arm up to the shoulder because of negligence by medical staff.

Commission cites rights of newborn child

The commission observed that if the allegations are found to be true, they would raise serious concerns relating to the newborn’s right to life, right to health, right to live with dignity and right to receive appropriate medical care.

In view of the gravity of the allegations, the commission registered a suo motu case and sought a detailed report from the District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO), Khammam, on the issues highlighted in the news report.

Report to be placed before commission

The matter has been posted before the commission for further hearing and submission of the report at 11 am on June 29, 2026.
