HYDERABAD: The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has ordered a probe into allegations of illegal detention, custodial torture and custodial death of a man from Kodad in Suryapet district.

The Commission took cognisance of complaints filed by the deceased’s mother, Karla Lalitha, and Dalit rights activist Manda Krishna Madiga, alleging that Karla Rajesh was unlawfully detained by Chilkur police station and Kodad Rural police station.

According to the complaints, Rajesh was subjected to third-degree methods, falsely implicated in cases, and denied access to his family. It was further alleged that he sustained severe injuries in custody and later died after being shifted from a sub-jail to government hospitals.

Cases clubbed with earlier complaint on same issue

The matter was registered as SR Nos. 4129 and 4130 of 2025. The Commission noted that similar allegations were raised earlier in SR No. 3693 of 2025 and decided to club all the cases for a comprehensive examination.

Considering the seriousness of the alleged human rights violations, the Commission directed the principal secretary to the Telangana government, home department, to submit a detailed report on the incident.

Next hearing fixed for January 12

The Commission fixed January 12, 2026, for further consideration of the matter.

Former Mancherial MP Venkatesh Netha, along with advocates, social activists and others, were present when the complaints were submitted before the Commission.
