Tghrc Orders Enquiries Into Two Alleged Rights Violations

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has sought a detailed report from the Cyberabad police commissioner on allegations that a police home guard assaulted a woman near Hafeezpet railway station on September 18.

Commission acts on complaint over alleged police assault

The commission, headed by chairperson Dr Justice Shameem Akther, took up an online complaint filed by Shreshta alleging that a police official assaulted a woman and pulled her by the hair near Hafeezpet railway station on September 18.

According to the complaint, a video circulated on social media showed a police official hitting a woman and pulling her by the hair. People present at the spot were also seen requesting the official to let the woman go, the complaint said.

The complainant further stated that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted an inquiry into the incident and identified the person seen in the video as a home guard attached to the Telangana police. He was reportedly on deputation for duty at Hafeezpet railway station.

TGHRC seeks details of action taken in incident

The commission said the allegations were serious. If established, the incident would amount to a violation of the woman’s dignity and basic human rights, including the rights to life, personal liberty and dignity guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution.

The commission office was directed to obtain a comprehensive report from the Cyberabad police commissioner on the allegations and the action taken in connection with the incident.
